Yes, the neighborhood is easy and pleasant to walk though, and most amenities are available within a short walk, including shopping, dining, churches, and entertainment. The neighborhood is served by a number of bus routes.
Both the University of Alberta and University of Alberta Hospital are about 2 km away, or about a 25 minute walk.
Our neighborhood recently underwent a neighborhood renewal. As part of this, a number of traffic calming measures have been put in place. This included narrowing of roads, sidewalk bump-outs, speed bumps, and additional crosswalks.
Traffic on 87th Ave is now one-way, and there is a contra-flow bike lane.
With a number of bike lanes (including 87th Avenue, 83rd Avenue, and 102nd Street), and easy access to the river valley, biking, whether for short trips in the neighborhood, trips downtown, or recreationally.

King Edward is a community school located in the heart of Old Strathcona.
It draws a diverse student population, primarily from the university, arts, media, and Whyte Avenue business communities.
King Edward School offers programming for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6.
It hosts the King Edward Child Care Centre and the Strathcona Nursery School as well as providing a Fringe venue during the summer.
Not really, we are 5 blocks away from Whyte Ave, in the residential neighborhood. This is generally far enough away that the noise from Whyte Avenue is limited.
The Edmonton International Fringe Theater Festival is held at various sites, primarily in Old Strathcona, but also throughout the rest of the City of Edmonton.
It is held typically in the latter portion of August, and does affect the us, primarily though reduced on-street parking, and increased traffic, both pedestrian and motor vehicles.

The Pride festival is typically held on a weekend in early June, in both the End of Steel Park, Community League Grounds, and King Edward School field.
We have a good working relationship with the Pride Festival and they are responsive to the impact that the festival has on the community.
